Maati

Maati kudam karendee yaar,
Vaah vaah maati de gulzaar;
Maati ghora maati jora, maati daa aswaar,
Maati maati nu (n) dorave, maati daa chankaar.

Maati maati nu(n) maaran lag-gee, maati de hathiyaar.
Jis maati par bahutee maati, so maati hankaar;
Maati baagh bagheechaa maati, maati dee gulzaar.
Maati maati nu (n) vekhan aayee, maati dee a bahar;

Hus khed phir maati hove, paindee pau pasaar.
Bullah ja(n) eh bujhaarat buj-jhe,
Taa(n) lah bhau siro(n) maar.”

“The soil is in ferment, O friend
Behold the diversity.
The soil is the horse, so is the rider
The soil chases the soil, and we hear the clanging of soil
The soil kills the soil, with weapons of the soil.
That soil with more on it, is arrogance
The soil is the garden so is its beauty
The soil admires the soil in all its wondrous forms
After the circle of life is done it returns to the soil
Answer the riddle O Bulleh, and take this burden off my head.”

By –Sahir Ludhianvi

ahle-dil aur bhi hain, ahle-wafa aur bhi hain

ek hum hi nahin, duniya se khafa, aur bhi hain

                                                                           (ahle-dil = dil wale, ahle-wafa = wafa karne wale)

hum pe khatam nahi maslake-shorida sari

chak dil aur bhi hain, chaak-kaba aur bhi hain

(maslake-shorida sari = pagalpan ka rasta, chaak-dil = jinke dil toot chuke                                                                                hain, chaak-kaba = fatey kapdon wale)

Dil ki Basti

“..dil ki basti bhi ik ajeeb basti hai

jo lootne wale ko tarasti hai !!”

– Allama Muhammad Iqbal

P.S : This is to state that i by no means dare to commit sacrilege by diluting the essence of the work of  great Alama Iqbal. But if at all, in my capacity, i could append this couplet this is how it will be..

“..dil ki basti bhi ik ajeeb basti hai

jo lootne wale ko tarasti hai !!”

sarey zamaney ko bhool, farz mein fana ho jana

ishq karne walon ki hasti

bhi kya ajeeb hasti hai!!

Ye Saali Zindagi

– Swanand Kirkire

Meri Jaan Meri Jaan, Meri Jaan Tu Yeh Bata
Meri Jaan Meri Jaan, Meri Jaan Tu Yeh Bata
Tujhse Karoon Wafa Ya Khud Se Karoon
Meri Jaan Meri Jaan, Meri Jaan Tu Yeh Bata
Sang Tere Maroon Ya Jiyun Apna Junoon
Sacche Jhoothe Vaado Se Hona Hai Kya
Humko Nahi Pata Hai Jab Kal Hoga Kya

Zindagi Pe Tera Mera Kisi Ka Na Zor Hai
Hum Sochte Hai Kuch Woh Saali Sochti Kuch Aur Hai
Yeh Zindagi, Yeh Saali Zindagi
Hum Chahate Yahan Hai Saali Jaati Kahin Aur Hai
Lamhe Aur Lamhon Ke Beech Yeh Tedhe Medhe Mod Hai
Yeh Zindagi, Yeh Saali Zindagi

Meri Jaan Meri Jaan, Meri Jaan Tu Yeh Bata
Tujhse Karoon Wafa Ya Khud Se Karoon

Phir Ek Raat Hua Ittefaq
Main Thi Tere Saath, Pehlu Mein Soyi Thi
Khoya Khoya Saath Khwaabon Wali Raat
Bani Phir Yaad, Pehlu Mein Khoyi Si Jaagi
Subah Ko Zindagi Nayi Si Mili
Nayi Nayi Raahon Par Mujhe Le Udi

Zindagi Pe Tera Mera Kisi Ka Na Zor Hai
Hum Sochte Hai Kuch Woh Saali Sochti Kuch Aur Hai
Yeh Zindagi, Yeh Saali Zindagi
Hum Chahate Yahan Hai Saali Jaati Kahin Aur Hai
Lamhe Aur Lamhon Ke Beech Yeh Tedhe Medhe Mod Hai
Yeh Zindagi, Yeh Saali Zindagi

Meri Jaan Meri Jaan, Meri Jaan Tu Yeh Bata
Tujhse Karoon Wafa Ya Khud Se Karoon

Oo Sacche Jhoothe Vaado Se Hona Hai Kya
Humko Nahi Pata Hai Jab Kal Hoga Kya
Meri Jaan Meri Jaan, Meri Jaan Tu Yeh Bata
Tujhse Karoon Wafa Ya Khud Se Karoon
Meri Jaan Meri Jaan, Meri Jaan Tu Yeh Bata
Tujhse Karoon Wafa Ya Khud Se Karoon

Main Baaghi Hoon

-written by Dr. Khalid Javed Jan during Zia ul Haq’s tenure

is daur k rasm riwaajon se,
in takhton se inn tajoon se,
jo zulm ki kokh se jante hain,
insani khoon se palte hain,
jo nafrat ki bunyadain hain
aur khooni khet ki khadein hain,
main baghi hoon main baghi hoon
jo chahe mujh pe zulm karo

wo jin k hont ki jambish se,
wo jin ki aankh ki larzish se,
qanoon badalte rehte hain,
aur mujhrim palte rehte hain,
in choroon k sardaron se
insaaf k pahre daron se
main baghi hoon main baghi hoon
jo chahe mujh pe zulm karo

mazhab k jo byopari hain,
wo sab se bari bemari hain,
wo jin k siwa sab kafir hain,
jo deen ka harf-e-akhir hain,
in jhute aur makkaron se
mazhab k thekedaron se
main baghi hoon main baghi hoon
jo chahe mujh pe zulm karo

mere hath main haq ka jhanda hai,
mere sir pe zulm ka phanda hai,
main marne se kab darti hoon,
main moat ki khatir zinda hoon,
mere khoon ka suraj chamke ga
to bacha bacha bole ga
main baghi hoon, main baghi hoon
jo chahe mujh pe zulm karo
